Adam's Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is a sacred mountain located in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. Standing at 2,243 meters, it is one of the country's most revered pilgrimage sites, attracting thousands of devotees and trekkers each year. The mountain is famous for its distinctive conical shape and the sacred footprint at its summit, believed to be that of the Buddha by Buddhists, Shiva by Hindus, and Adam by Christians and Muslims.
The trek to the summit is a challenging yet rewarding experience. The most popular route starts at the base camp in Dalhousie and involves climbing over 5,000 steps through lush forests and tea plantations. Many climbers start at night so they can reach the peak for dawn — the sunrise above the clouds is a deeply moving sight.
Adam's Peak provides both spiritual significance and dramatic natural beauty. Along the ascent you pass mountain streams, misty viewpoints and small rest shrines. The annual pilgrimage season from December to May sees a steady flow of devotees; outside that window the trail is quieter but still spectacular.
